A Second Renovation at Canal Front Residence — Warm Modern Luxury Done Right
Project Overview
Some projects feel like a natural continuation of something you love. This was one of them.
After we completed the first 2-bedroom apartment at Canal Front Residence, the client trusted us to renovate a second unit in the same building. That kind of repeat confidence means a lot to us. It also gave us a chance to build on what we already knew about the space, the light, and the lifestyle these homes support.
The brief was clear. The client wanted a home that felt warm and refined. Not cold and minimal. Not overdone or flashy. Just beautifully considered, with every detail earning its place.
In short, this became one of our favourite projects of the year.
The Design Vision: Warm Modernism with Lasting Appeal
We describe this project as “warm modern.” So, it is worth explaining what that means in practice.
Warm modern design moves away from stark whites and bare concrete. Instead, it layers natural materials, earthy tones, and custom craft to create spaces that feel genuinely liveable. These spaces look beautiful in photos, but they feel even better in person.
For this apartment, we built the palette around soft neutrals, warm taupes, and natural stone tones. Nothing jarring. Nothing that would feel dated in five years. Rather, this is the kind of home you want to return to at the end of a long day in the city. As a result, every material, every finish, and every joinery piece supports that feeling.

The Kitchen: A Custom Stone Island That Anchors the Space
The kitchen is where most renovation projects either succeed or disappoint. Here, it delivers completely.
We designed a fully custom kitchen with a statement stone island at its centre. The stone was selected for both its visual warmth and its durability. It brings a natural, organic quality to the space without the high-maintenance concerns of more delicate materials.

Custom Cabinetry Built for the Space
The cabinetry is full-height, running floor to ceiling in clean vertical lines. This is not just a design choice. It is a practical one. Full-height joinery makes a space feel taller and more considered. It also maximises storage in a way that standard cabinets simply cannot.
The hardware is understated. The colour palette stays consistent with the rest of the apartment. And the integration of appliances keeps the visual lines clean and uninterrupted.
This kitchen works as a centrepiece. You notice it the moment you walk in. But it never feels like it is trying too hard.
Herringbone Flooring Throughout: Texture That Adds Character
Flooring choices often get underestimated. But the right floor can transform a space entirely.
For this apartment, we chose herringbone-pattern flooring throughout the main living areas. The pattern adds visual texture and a sense of craftsmanship without overwhelming the palette. It references traditional European design while sitting comfortably within a contemporary home.
The tone of the floor was carefully matched to the overall palette. It connects the kitchen, the living area, and the entryway in one cohesive flow. When you walk through the apartment, it feels continuous and intentional.
Wall Detailing: The Quiet Luxury of the In-Between Spaces
One of the things that separates a well-renovated home from a truly exceptional one is what happens on the walls between the furniture.
In this apartment, we introduced refined wall detailing throughout the living and bedroom areas. Subtle panelling, considered proportions, and textures that catch the light gently without demanding attention.
These details reward a second look. They tell you that someone thought carefully about every square metre of this home.
The Bathrooms: Clean Stone, Calm Energy, Spa-Like Atmosphere
Bathrooms in luxury apartments should feel like an escape. Not just a functional space, but somewhere you genuinely enjoy spending time.
Both bathrooms in this apartment were completely redesigned from the ground up. We used clean stone finishes throughout, selected for their consistency and their ability to reflect light in a soft, flattering way.
A Spa-Like Atmosphere Without the Clutter
The design brief for the bathrooms was simple: calm and clean. No overly decorative tiles. No competing patterns. Just quality materials, considered proportions, and the kind of finish that ages beautifully.
The result is bathrooms that feel genuinely spa-like. Not because they are overdone. But because they are so well considered that nothing feels out of place.
Fixtures were chosen to complement the stone and the neutral palette. The lighting was planned to create warmth in the evenings and clarity in the mornings.

Wood Joinery: Full-Height and Fully Bespoke
Joinery runs throughout this apartment and ties everything together. From the kitchen cabinetry to the bedroom wardrobes, every piece was designed and made to fit the exact dimensions and aesthetic of this home.
Full-height joinery in the bedrooms gives the rooms a boutique hotel quality. The wardrobes feel considered and complete. Storage is generous. The lines are clean.
This is not furniture bought off a shelf and placed in a space. It is craftsmanship built into the home itself.

The Result: A Calm, Cohesive Luxury Home
What this project delivered, above everything else, is a sense of cohesion.
Every room connects to the next. Every material references something else in the apartment. The warmth of the wood echoes in the floor. The stone of the kitchen island speaks to the bathrooms. The wall detailing in the living room continues, in a quieter way, into the bedrooms.
This is what we mean when we talk about a fully considered renovation. Not a collection of individual choices, but a home that feels like it was designed as one complete thing.
